水引には、色の違い以外にも本数、結び方で慶弔の区別があります。使う時はちょっと注意が必要ですが、日常の生活に気軽に取り入れられる日本の文化でもあります。

水引は、和紙を細長く縒って作られる、飾りの帯紐のことです。様々な状況に応じて、色が使い分けられます。例えば、金色、銀色、赤色と白色の帯紐は、祝儀袋と呼ばれる贈り物のお金を入れる袋に使われます。一方、黒色と白色の帯紐は、不祝儀袋と呼ばれるお悔やみのお金を入れるのに使われます。

Mizuhiki are decorative cords or strings made by twisting Japanese paper thin. Their colors are used in various ways depending on the situation. For instance, golden, silver, red and white strings are used for the Shugo-Bukuro, or an envelope for gift money.
