Today I would like to introduce the temple bell of Todaiji Temple. It is a temple bell with a very long history that was cast in the same era as the Great Buddha.
This bell is an original from the Nara period when Todaiji was built, and is designated as a national treasure.
There are 14 temple bells designated as national treasures, including those imported from overseas. Among them, Todaiji is the only one where you can actually hear the sound of the bell. In addition, it is considered to be the oldest among the active bells.
