介護は「何をするか」で語られがちですが、本質はそこではありません。
むしろ重要なのは、「どの状態で関わるか」です。
「会いに行く介護」は、距離を埋める行為です。
しかし、それだけでは不十分です。
そこに「ただ聴く」が加わった時、初めて関係は変わります。
多くの現場では、会話は「説明する」「理解させる」ために使われています。
しかし認知症のある高齢者にとって、それは負荷になります。
言葉を合わせることよりも、呼吸を合わせることが先です。
「ただ聴く」とは、黙ることではありません。
評価せず、修正せず、結論を急がず、
相手の呼吸のリズムに自分を置くことです。
この状態に入ったとき、
高齢者は「理解された」のではなく、「存在を許された」と感じます。
介護とは、問題解決ではなく、存在の回復です。
会いに行き、ただ聴く。
このシンプルな行為が、介護のOSを変えます。

Care is often defined by what we do.
But that is not the essence.
The real question is:
In what state do we meet the person?
“Going to them” is an act of closing distance.
It matters.
But by itself, it does not change the relationship.
Something else must be added:
to simply listen.
In many care settings, conversation is used to explain, correct, or guide.
But for older adults, especially those living with dementia,
this approach can become a burden.
Alignment does not begin with words.
It begins with breath.
To “simply listen” does not mean to stay silent.
It means to suspend judgment,
to avoid correction,
to resist the urge to conclude.
It means placing yourself within the rhythm of the other person’s breathing.
When this state is reached,
the person does not feel “understood” in a cognitive sense.
They feel something deeper:
They feel allowed to exist.
Care is not problem-solving.
It is the restoration of presence.
To go to them.
To simply listen.
This seemingly small shift
redefines the operating system of care.
So ask yourself:
Are you truly listening to the person?
Or are you searching for your own answer?
