This song is inspired by Kukai, the 9th-century Japanese monk who founded Shingon Buddhism. While meditating in a cave at Cape Muroto, he experienced a profound awakening where the boundary between himself and the universe vanished. At that moment, the Morning Star (Venus) flew into his mouth, and he felt the ocean reflecting the sky, becoming one with nature.
This is why he took the name "Kukai"—meaning "Sky and Sea." This ballad is a healing prayer for the unity of all life.
