I think it really depends on the kind of community you live in.
For example, if someone left vegetables in the lobby of the apartment building where I live now, I most likely wouldn’t take them because I don’t know most of my neighbors very well. Plus, I live in a big city.
But if you’re talking the countryside, where everyone knows each other—or where people are used to sharing things and exchanging food with their neighbors—then I think it would be perfectly normal. I might even take them myself.
