Just a one-minute English speech by Thinking Fox.
As my son plays at a local soccer club every week, I bought him a guidebook on junior soccer.
Looking through it, I was surprised — it was so advanced, even though it was a book for elementary school kids.
The book consists of four parts: dribbling, kicking, one-on-ones, and match play.
Throughout all four parts, the book emphasizes the importance of thinking tactically while playing.
What struck me most were two things: watching the opponent closely and making decisions based on the situation.
So when facing an opponent, players need to watch him closely — especially which foot he has his weight on.
To do that, players always need to keep their head up while they're on the ball.
The book also highlights that players should always have a safe option — that is, a play with no risk of losing the ball to the opponent.
On top of that, they should have two or three riskier options, and then decide which one to go for based on the risks involved.
This might be common knowledge for adult players, but I had no idea that today's kids also bring these ideas into their play.
When I was a kid, I also played for a local soccer club.
But back then, all I could think about was just pulling off the Raiju Shot from *Captain Tsubasa*. Nothing like that ever crossed my mind.
If I could go back to my childhood, I'd love to practice soccer once more, properly learning things like this.
That's it. See you next time.

Thinking Fox
