【Exploring the Aging Society #91】Good Sleep
10-Part Series | Understanding Daily Life Through Sleep
What Does Good Sleep Really Mean?
Did you sleep well last night?
We often focus on how many hours we sleep.
But is sleeping longer the same as sleeping better?
Good sleep involves more than duration. Sleep continuity, regularity, how refreshed we feel in the morning, and our ability to function during the day all matter.
Our sleep patterns may change as we age.
Rather than expecting everyone to sleep in the same way, we need to understand each person's individual needs.
Reflecting on my 37 years of experience in elderly care, I believe we should move beyond conventional nighttime care toward a broader approach: Sleep Care.
Sleep measurements and monitoring devices can help us understand sleep patterns.
But numbers alone cannot tell the whole story.
"Did you sleep well?"
"How did you feel when you woke up?"
"Do you feel energetic during the day?"
These simple questions are important.
Understanding good sleep means understanding daily life.
And supporting better sleep means supporting a better quality of life.
In the second episode of our Sleep Care series, we explore what good sleep really means.
Rethinking the Aging Society Through Daily Life.
